UiPath Robot Guide

Converting Robot Deployment Type

The Robot can be installed as follows:

  • Windows Service - The default deployment type. This is possible both through the installer and the command line.
  • User Mode - Only possible through the command line.

If a Robot is installed in user mode it means that it has the exact same rights as the user under which it has been installed. You can switch between a Windows Service Robot and a User Mode Robot at any moment through the command line.

Windows Service to User Mode

To convert from Robot Windows Service to User Mode, the following steps need to be performed:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt instance.
  2. Use the Net Stop UiRobotSvc command. This stops the Robot Windows Service.
  3. Use the cd %ProgramFiles(x86)%\UiPath\Studio command to navigate to the UiPath installation folder.
  4. Use the UiPath.Service.Host.exe uninstall command to remove the UiPath Robot Service. Your Robot now runs in User Mode.

User Mode to Windows Service

To convert from Robot User Mode to Windows Service, the following steps need to be performed:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt instance.
  2. Use the TaskKill /F /IM UiPath.Agent.exe command. This kills the running Robot Agent service.
  3. Use the TaskKill /F /IM UiPath.Service.Host.exe command to kill the running Robot Service component.
  4. Use the cd %ProgramFiles(x86)%\UiPath\Studio command to navigate to the UiPath installation folder.
  5. Use the UiPath.Service.Host.exe install command. This installs the Robot as a Windows Service.
  6. Use the Net Start UiRobotSvc command. This starts the Robot Windows Service. Your Robot now runs as a Windows Service.

It is also possible to change your Robot deployment type while also updating it. You can check out how to do so on this page.
